Are composite doors good?
Composite doors are both strong and highly secure. They will also increase the thermal efficiency of your home and can be designed to suit you.
Manufactured in our workshop using high-heat, high-pressure environments, we ensure our composite doors are weather resistant so you’re protected from the elements. This also makes them last a lifetime, if properly cleaned and maintained. The material used to make our composite doors is resistant to naturally occurring damage such as heavy rain and winds. Their strength also makes it very difficult for a burglar to break in.
Composite doors have been proven to be more energy efficient than uPVC doors, helping you to cut down on your household bills. Available in many designs and colours, they are a great way to put your own stamp on your forever home while keeping it safe and warm.
How long should a composite door last?
Composite doors are built to withhold extreme weather due to their creation in high-pressure, high temperature environments. This means they’re extremely durable and resistant to naturally-occurring damage and should last a lifetime if properly maintained.
The strongest composite doors (liek the ones at Perfecta) have a timber core, which adds even more onto their long lifespan. On average, you can expect a composite door with a timber core to last between 30-40 years. However, this can be doubled if you take care of your composite door by wiping it down regularly and giving it some TLC now and again
Are composite doors cheaper than uPVC?
In simple terms, no. UPVC doors are thinner than composite doors and therefore require fewer materials and a less complicated manufacturing process. However, this shouldn’t be a deal breaker when considering investing in a composite door. Due to their strength and durability, your composite door is built to last for decades. Whereas uPVC doors last marginally less, but will still look good for at least 20 years if properly maintained.
Our composite doors are made with the highest quality materials and are more energy efficient than uPVC due to their excellent insulative properties. Composite doors come with brushes along the floor to stop a cold draught in its tracks so the inside of your home stays warm and cosy. Over time, this can help reduce your energy bills so you begin to see a return on your investment.
What does a composite door mean?
A composite door is built from not just one material, but a mixture of different elements. This makes them incredibly secure and durable. The strongest composite doors are made with a timber core which strengthens the whole structure at the base. Other materials which make up a composite door can be uPVC, insulating materials such as foam, and reinforced glass for window panes. You can also opt for weather protected hinges and high-tech multi-locking systems for easy maintenance and extra security.
What is the best material for a front door?
They all have their benefits and it is a question of personal preference and lifestyle.
Wooden doors come in a variety of finishes and add a traditional look to any home. They are highly adaptable so can be built to fit a number of different shapes and sizes. As they’re made from wood, they can be more vulnerable to wet weather and damage. This means they require more maintenance if you would like them to be long lasting.
Composite doors are one of the highest security options out there when it comes to replacing your front door. Although they may cost more, you will definitely see a return in your investment in the years to come. Adding value to your home, they are incredibly durable and increase the thermal efficiency of your home, meaning you spend less on your household bills.
uPVC doors are a cheaper alternative to composite doors, although they are extremely hard-wearing and good insulators. At Perfecta, we offer a wide range of styles, colours and finishes – including wood finish and decorative glass – so you can make your front door as individual as you are.
What should I look for when buying a front door?
It depends on your lifestyle and what elements you want to prioritise. If you want to add character to your home’s exterior, then our traditional wooden doors are a classic design and will enhance the aesthetic of any home. Composite doors, on the other hand, come in an impressive range of colours and designs, so may be more suited if you want to make a bold statement and add some individuality to your home.
Cost is another factor to consider. UPVC is our most budget-friendly material in the short term, but they are less durable so you may find they need replacing more often than doors such as our composite design. They are also less energy efficient so may not be the best option if you’re looking to increase your home’s insulation and reduce energy bills.
