Fed up of high energy bills? Looking to make some home improvements but want to see a return on your investment? Then double glazing may be the perfect solution for you.
Designed to put a stop to heat escaping from your home, installing double glazing will help you save money on household bills with the added benefit of reducing noise pollution. Perfect if you live in the city or just crave some peace and quiet.
Double glazing is made using two separate panes of glass with a small gap between them. This gap fills with a gas called argon which works as a fantastic insulator. The cold temperature of the outside window is kept away from inside your home, keeping your rooms nice and cosy while also significantly reducing condensation.
All our double glazed windows are highly rated, with our Super Energy Efficient glazing and triple glazing helping you reduce energy costs even further. Not only will the investment save you money, it will also add value to your home for years to come.
The benefits don’t stop there! Our double glazing also adds an extra level of security as their double, thick frames are hard to break. We also use high security hinges and thermally toughened glass to make sure you can fully relax and unwind knowing your loved ones are safe.

Is it worth replacing double glazing?
If you’re fed up with draughts and feel that your windows aren’t as energy efficient as they should be, then replacing them with double glazing may be the perfect solution for you. Double glazing tends to have a lifespan of around 20 to 30 years and as time goes on, they can also become less efficient due to wear and tear.
If your glazing is still under 10 years old, we would recommend repairing your windows as a more cost-effective solution. At Britannia, we offer a 10-year guarantee and will repair your windows if they aren’t performing the way that they should.
If you’re looking to take another step further when it comes to creating a home that is highly energy efficient, then get in contact with one of our advisors today to discuss our triple glazing options.
What is the best gap for double glazing?
At Perfecta, we fill the gap between the two planes of glass with argon, a gas that is denser than air, making our double glazing highly insulative. Preventing cold air from coming in and the warm air from your home escaping, our double glazing will help keep your home cosy all year round while also reducing noise pollution.
We’ve discovered that a 28mm thick unit with a 20mm gap is the best option for double glazing and we offer this as standard. Our double glazing will help you reduce the cost of your household bills while protecting the environment. It is definitely an investment that will add value to your home.
Does double glazing reduce condensation?
The two panes of glass help reduce condensation in your home, as the outer pane comes into contact with the cold air and the inner pane with the warm air with the ambient temperature of your home. The gas in the middle stops heat transferring between the two which prevents droplets from forming on the inside of your windows!
Condensation is caused by the warm air hitting the cold window pane, causing humidity in the air to condense and form droplets on the window. Without this contact, you will find you can wake up in your warm house in the winter months and notice significantly less condensation on your windows than you would with single glazing.
Does double glazing reduce noise?
It certainly does! The argon gas in the gap between the two panes of glass in our double glazing helps reduce noise of the hustle and bustle outside. Sound travels in waves and can move more easily through single glazed windows. Argon is denser than air and also has different sound wave properties, meaning that noise can’t travel well through it, which results in a peaceful and serene living environment.
What is double glazing?
The difference between single and double glazing is the number of panes of glass used within the frame. Single glazed windows only use one, whereas double glazing uses two panes of glass that create a gap of trapped gas between the two. This increases their insulative properties immensely, as well as reducing noise pollution if you live on a busy street.
Double glazing can make a significant difference to your home, enabling a homeowner to reduce their energy bills and create a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
How long does double glazing last?
Normally around 20-30 years, though this can depend on a number of variables. If you want to ensure your double glazing lasts for as long as possible, check that the window quality is A-rated for energy efficiency, that installation is carried out by experts (like those at Perfecta) and make sure you have an airtight window frame to reduce draughts.
A quick and easy way to tell if your double glazing isn’t working is if you notice increased levels of condensation forming on the inside or if it becomes significantly cold to the touch.
